OpenStack Seattle Meetup

OpenStack Seattle Meetup

OpenStack has become THE open source standard for managing compute, storage and networking resources in the datacenter.

This community-backed project could not exist without the enthusiasm and support of its members—especially in the greater Seattle area.

Blue Box looks forward to welcoming open source supporters from the DevOps to the business communities, and those with budding interest in OpenStack. Come one, come all, to the next OpenStack Seattle Meetup on February 2, 2015 at 6 pm!...

Important OpenStack Bylaw Changes: Please Vote

Important OpenStack Bylaw Changes: Please Vote

It’s absolutely imperative that if you’re an OpenStack foundation member, you vote in the current election. Your ballot should be in your inbox*. The Individual Director election currently open for voting among the OpenStack Foundation membership has three important proposed bylaws changes, and these require 25 percent member participation in this election:
  1. Update the OpenStack Trademark Process. The revisions permit the adoption of the DefCore procedures and any changes to those procedures in the future. Any changes to the process must be approved by the Board and the Technical Committee.
  2. Allow an Expanded Legal Committee. The Legal Affairs Committee is currently limited to five members. In the revision, the board can set the...

Vote Now for OpenStack Board Directors (#VoteForJesse)

Vote Now for OpenStack Board Directors (#VoteForJesse)

Voting begins today for OpenStack Foundation Individual Directors. I’m running for one of the eight seats elected at large from the Foundation membership, and I’d appreciate your support.

A quarter of the membership vote is required for the election results to be valid, so please spread the word!

Over the past week, I’ve outlined the reasons why I’m running, couched in terms of my vision for OpenStack and how the Board can play a key role in getting us there. (read my campaign platform and related blog posts, here and here)

To summarize, the Board – working...

Raising Our Voices: Operators on the OpenStack Board

Raising Our Voices: Operators on the OpenStack Board

Earlier this week I wrote a blog post outlining the four platforms for my candidacy for the OpenStack Individual Director position:
  1. Refining the board’s vision for OpenStack
  2. Completing the definition of OpenStack core
  3. Implementing a cohesive product management strategy
  4. Integrating the voice of the operator

In that blog post I covered the first two planks in more detail. In this post, I’d like to briefly discuss the other two reasons.

In the 2.5 years since the launch of the OpenStack Foundation, the...

The De Facto Interoperable Private Cloud Platform: OpenStack

The De Facto Interoperable Private Cloud Platform: OpenStack

I’m running for one of the Individual Director positions of the OpenStack Foundation Board of Directors, and I’d like your support. I believe the future success of OpenStack demands attention on the following four areas:

  1. Refining the board’s vision for OpenStack
  2. Completing the definition of OpenStack core
  3. Implementing a cohesive product management strategy
  4. Integrating the voice of the operator

Through Saturday, I will be posting a series of blog posts outlining this platform. Today, I’ll hone in on the first two of them:

  1. Why we need to refine the board’s vision for OpenStack
  2. The importance of the OpenStack core
"Jesse shares my background as a technologist and infrastructure operator. I'm a strong believer that as OpenStack continues down the path of adoption,...

Another year, another “B” day at Blue Box

Another year, another “B” day at Blue Box

There’s nothing like returning after a holiday break, ready to hit the ground running, and starting the year off with a bang. In fact, in light of today’s news I declare today “B” day at Blue Box.

Our Series B financing is complete.

Back in October, we announced part one of our “B” financing round, featuring a $10 million investment from a strategic investor and prior investors including Voyager Capital and Founder Collective, as well as the Blue Box executive team.

Today we are proud to announce that one of the nation’s premier integrated telecommunications...
